Let’s be real; planning a wedding can be overwhelming. It is truly a magical time, but between making vendor calls, getting invitations out, creating seating charts, and tasting cake, sometimes you just need to stop to pause. Whether you’re looking for a laugh or a cry, or wedding inspiration, here’s your list of 10 perfect movies to watch while planning your wedding.

Father of the Bride (1991)

The heartwarming charm of this film is palpable.

I first watched this movie when I was in high school with my parents and we still quote part of it to this very day. The cast delivers this funny and touching film perfectly by revealing the love and chaos that comes along with wedding planning. The bittersweet emotions for the father giving his daughter away are so well played by Steve Martin that there is no doubt that the father of the bride will be able to relate.

Bridesmaids (2011)

A ridiculously funny account of being the maid of honor.

This crazy good cast portrays the funny parts of being a bridesmaid/maid of honor with the MOH being Kristen Wiig. Her life is a complete mess, but she is determined to be a good friend and play the part of MOH well. Slightly raunchy parts, and slap stick humor at it’s finest!

Bride Wars (2009)

You will laugh your tush off and also be reminded of what NOT to do.

This comedy with Kate Hudson and Emma is so far over the top that it makes it absolutely hilarious. It is the story of two best friends who accidentally select the same destination and spot for their wedding. Despite all of the drama, it is a good reminder to keep friendship at the forefront.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)

This cultural celebration is a feel good one with the energy of a large family which will bring so many laughs and feels.

This movie is all about a multicultural wedding, embracing your roots and carrying on family traditions. It will have you truly laughing out loud— and may even have you looking at Windex in a new light.

The Wedding Planner (2001)

This movie is a sweet story where a career and Cupid collide for romance and comedy!

This is a truly charming love story about timing, love and logistics. Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey together have the perfect chemistry for this dreamy rom-com.

Crazy Rich Asians (2018)

Inspiring fashion and lots of wedding eye candy!

This movie is one to watch if you are looking for high-end wedding vibes, over-the top luxury, and jaw-dropping dresses. This story of a girl heading to Singapore with her long term boyfriend to his best friend’s wedding. From quirky relatives, to a disapproving mother this girl is in for a ride!

This movie has real chemistry despite the fake wedding.

Something Borrowed (2011)

Complicated love triangles and moments of what-if.

I have to admit that I have not seen this movie yet. I read the book that it is based off of and so when a friend suggested that I had this to my blog, I decided to add it here and to put it on my must-see movies. The story tests the limits of friendship and true love.

Mamma Mia! (2008)

If this doesn’t make you want to sing and dance your way to Greece while planning for your wedding, I’m not sure if we can be friends. (Just kidding! Kinda!)

I saved this one for last because it is my all time favorite movie to watch with my girls. When your planning gets too stressful, play Dancing Queen by ABBA and your stress will melt away. Remember the love and joy that weddings (and life!!!) are all about. This movie is sure to leave you remembering that your special day is all about the being surrounded by your friends and family while you marry the love of your life.

Step away from your wedding planning so that you can have some clarity and a break from all of the organizing and planning. These perfect movies to watch while wedding planning offer moments for a relatable escape. So grab your person, bestie, mom, dad or sister-or just a cozy blanket and glass of wine!- and sit back to take in the funny and sweet moments that these movies offer.

Once again, thank you so much for taking time to read my blog! I hope that you find it inspiring no matter what you have going on in your life. If you need more ideas on how to stop and take some time during the wedding planning craze, read here.

If this is your first time reading one of my blogs you will see that I believe whole heartedly that locally owned businesses are an integral part of our community and society. Family owned businesses bring a special level of attention and care and in the event business, this is essential. Therefore, I am a part of a wedding venue owners group and I link locally owned venues with each of my blogs. You can also look here for a wedding venue map.
