Wedding Flowers from the bouquets to the ceremonial arch to the tables.

For me, it is all about the flowers. If I am in a bad mood, smelling a lovely flower or just looking at one lifts my spirits immediately. I have never been ashamed of buying myself a beautiful bouquet when I’m at the grocery. I LOVE everything about flowers and more recently am on a floral painting kick. (I even have been known to do a painting of a bride’s bouquet as my gift.) I can find a weed to be beautiful because after all, we choose to believe what we see so I tend to look for the beauty in all things. We were on a drive home from Wild Wonderful West Virginia- which is where Jason is from- and we saw bright colored wildflowers sprayed between the highway. Jason turned to me and said-“You want me to pull over so you can go take some pictures, don’t you?” Let’s just say that this man knows me. Not only did we pull over, but he took his drone out and we took photos with the kids on the interstate with trucks whizzing by in both directions. Here is a little painting that I did from one of the pictures from that day.

I am currently working on growing seasonal varieties that are native to Florida and/or do well in our growing zone; while completing construction and continued to make improvements on the property the time to commit to my inner flower farm girl has been quite limited. I cannot wait to be able to put more effort into that space, but I did have a successful Ranunculus growing season last winter and am in hopes that this will be another successful year. Here are some pictures of last year’s beauties.

So I wanted to write this blog to offer some advice to couples who are beginning the planning process for their wedding as well as to feature a few phenomenal florists who we recommend.

Here are some things to consider when selecting your florist:

  • Budget: Start with an overall budget for your wedding and decide what details are impotent to you.
  • Venue:Take into consideration the overall vibe of your venue. Lavender on the Lake is a barn venue that sits on farm property, however, we have designed our space to be a white canvas. We have high, clean ceilings, large rings of light with black pipe, and black details on the windows that you can create the space to  become whatever choose it to be.
  • Take a look into using seasonal flowers: Seasonal flowers are usually less expensive and more available to you so it is helpful to know what flowers are in seasonal.
  • Style: Think about the style that you would like to have, such as bright colors, clean lines, or lots of texture.
  • Florist’s Style: Be sure to look at the florist’s portfolio and/or social media to get a better idea of their style as well as their creativity.

Featuring 3 Local Florists

BlueGrass Chic Floral Lead floral designer and Owner, Michelle is a former firefighter whom Jason had known prior to working together in the wedding industry. I had seen a little post that BlueGrass had posted on Instagram letting followers know that they had many items for sale so I went over to their new warehouse and found some goodies for Lavender on the Lake. Here are some images from a recent styled shoot that we did with BlueGrass Chic. The decor here is done by Ocean Hawks Rentals which will need their own entire blog from LOTL at some point.

Sarandipity Floral is another wonderful Florida florist. Her work is so lovely! Here are a few photos from a summer wedding here at Lavender on the Lake.

Sarah the creator and owner of Flower Girl Designs does a fabulous job and just did a wedding here. She stayed late the night before sending me this photo after she took a moment to enjoy the sunset. I love when our vendors get all the feels while they are here as they work hard to create beautiful experiences for our couples.

Sarah and I connected on many things having both been middle school teachers and I am truly looking forward to not only working with her to create fabulous floral wedding moments, but also to work together to host a summer art/flower camp. (Seriously!? Teaching and art is my true heart passion and I love to collaborate with others to create an even greater experience so I am looking forward to growing our ideas together for next summer for kids in our community. 🙂 ) AND stay tuned to a future post with some of her work because the one I took was all I have from yesterday’s wedding due to the whirlwind of the wedding day.

Flowers are by far among my most favorite things in this world…I mean other than my precious children, husband, family, and friends of course. The simple beauty just gets me every time.

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. As always I love to feature locally owned venues because I believe so strongly is small, family owned businesses. You can also look at this wedding venue map for locally owned venues. For us here at Lavender on the Lake, we take all moments to heart and want our guests to truly have a unique and wonderful experience.
